FS: Selling MANY Yixing pots!

by tingjunkie » Jun 30th 18 1:47 am

Hello Tea Chatters!

I'm long overdue for thinning out my Yixing collection, and on top of that, I just found a great stash of two different early 90's new-old-stock teapots with amazing clay and firing that I couldn't pass up.

Since I'm selling a bunch of pots, I'm going to be using USPS Priority Mail for shipping in the US. Buyers outside the U.S. must contact me ahead of time to discuss whether shipping to your country is possible, and the costs of doing so. Paypal only, please.

Ok, let's clear up some space in my tea cabinets...

Pot #3

This is the first of the new-old-stock pots I'm selling. I'm releasing 7 of the shui pings and stashing a few for the future as an investment.

To the best of my knowledge, after consulting with my Yixing expert friends and discussing with the seller, these are non-Factory 1 pots which were made for export to the Taiwanese market back in the early 90's, but trying to replicate F1. According to the seller, he ordered them back in '93, but had issues getting them in to Taiwan, so they have been in sitting in his friend's California warehouse ever since. In the Yixing world, I take all stories with a grain of salt, but what I do know is: 1) The clay and firing are of excellent quality, and should do well with almost any tea, 2) They came with no off smells at all, 3) they brew an excellent round of tea, doing a great job at preserving the high notes and adding more punch to the brew, 4) they start developing a patina quickly, and 5) when comparing the clay to an authentic 1970's F1 pot I own, it looks very similar (see pics!)

I purposely photographed the teapot with the most craftsmanship issues, just to be fair. The others should all be "better" than the one pictured. Some pots have slightly misaligned handles, other have slight lid gaps, etc. In short, you're not buying these for the flawless craftsmanship, but as an inexpensive way to get your hands on the amazing Huanglong Mountain clay that was no longer mined after the late 90's. Buyers will receive 1 (or more) of the pots chosen at random. Please do not ask for individual photos.

Size: 95ml +/- 5ml
Clay: Vintage Huanglong Shan Hong Ni!
Era: 1993
Firing: High
Source: Private Yixing Studio (non-Factory export to Taiwan)
Filter: Single Hole
Lid Fit: Average. Some dripping. Typical of the era.
Notes: Pot will be selected at random from group.
Price: $95 + shipping 5 Left

Pot #4

The second new-old-stock pots I found. Releasing 8 of these shen deng pots.

Pot #5 SOLD!

Green Label Nei Zi Wai Hong. Getting harder to find these as an entire set with the tray and cups!

Size: 130ml
Clay: Nei Zi Wai Hong (Zhuni over Zi Ni)
Era: Factory 1 Green Label '77-'83
Firing: Medium
Source: Factory 1
Filter: Single Hole
Lid Fit: Some movement. Typical of the era.
Notes: Very small spot on the lid where the outer zhuni clay is missing. Most likely from a tiny bubble that formed when it was dipped. See last pic below. That's why I'm selling the set at a discount.
Price: $150 + shipping

Pot #7 SOLD!

I *think* this pot is showing yao bian (kiln color change) from extra heavy firing. That's my best guess as to the discoloration you can see. As such, selling this one off extra cheap.

Size: 40ml
Clay: Muo Lu Ni
Era: 90's
Firing: High
Source: Private Studio
Filter: Single Hole
Lid Fit: Excellent
Notes: Non-factory pot meant to mimic F1. Probably for Taiwanese market.
Price: $25 + shipping

Pot #8

Reluctant to let this one go, but I just don't use it often. I love the shape and the craftsmanship. This is one of a few pots I grabbed from a secret Chinatown "treasure" shop that went out of business about 6 years ago. Excellent pot all around. If no one grabs this, I won't be sad about keeping it at all. :D

Size: 145ml
Clay: Hong Ni/Qingshui Ni Blend
Era: Late 90's-Early 2000's?
Firing: Medium-High
Source: NYC Chinatown
Filter: 7 Hole
Lid Fit: Perfect
Notes: Great
Price: $120 + shipping

Pot #9

This was a recent purchase from Taiwan Tea Crafts as I was ordering some of their tea anyway. According to them, it's a new-old-stock 1980's Taiwanese clay pot. They clay and craftsmanship are both excellent, but the pour is a bit too long for my tastes, so I'll take a loss on this. Pot is cleaned and ready to use, and will come with original box.

Size: 95ml
Clay: Vintage Taiwanese Hong Ni
Era: 80's?
Firing: High
Source: Taiwan Tea Crafts
Filter: 7 Hole
Lid Fit: Great
Notes: Great clay and craftsmanship, but slow pour.
Price: $55 + Shipping

Pot #10SOLD!

Another I'm reluctant to let go because of where it came from. This is a Tea Gallery selection, but I just rarely get a chance to use pots this size. If you're looking for great clay that can handle greener oolongs like gao shan or TGY, this is it!

Size: 168ml
Clay: Hong Ni
Era: Late 90's-Early 2000's? Replica of Qing era pot.
Firing: High
Source: Tea Gallery NYC
Filter: Single Hole with custom 99% pure silver filter (can be removed)
Lid Fit: Excellent
Notes: Preserves higher notes of a tea very well, and adds depth to mouthfeel.
Price: $120 + shipping

Pot #11

Size: 45ml
Clay: Hong Ni
Era: 90's
Firing: Med-Low
Source: Private studio for export to Taiwan
Filter: Single Hole
Lid Fit: Excellent
Notes: Craftsmanship on this little guy is surprisingly good. Clay would be great for heavy roast oolongs, shu puerh, and liu bao.
Price: $40 + shipping

Pot #12

Size: 105ml
Clay: Hong Ni
Era: Late 90's-Early 2000's?
Firing: Medium-High
Source: Online
Filter: Single Hole (Formally golf-ball style filter)
Lid Fit: Excellent
Notes: Everything about this pot is great. High quality hong ni, great firing and craftsmanship. Only issue is that the pot used to have a golf ball style clay filter that must have fallen off. The previous owner tried to epoxy the filter back in place, but it fell off again. I sanded the epoxy residue off as best I can, and now it's a single hole filter. Selling for a great price because of that.
Price: $50 + shipping
