Here is a teacup from Myung Jae-Hyun, a wonderful potter we met last spring through the auspices of Arthur Park's Tea Tour Korea. It has quickly become a personal favorite. Here, it's hosting some 1999 Kunming Factory Red from the sadly departed Origin Tea.

Is the lovely pink/purple tone just the lighting or part of a very subtle multicolor glaze?

There's no reason to blame photo skills for reflections and lighting that enhances the appearance of a piece of teaware--as long as you're not trying to sell it. That's one of the joys of owning a lovely ceramic piece: you get to use it in different conditions and see it express different 'personality' in different settings--something you don't get to do in a gallery or a museum.



This cup doesn't have a yellow cast unless the sun is streaming through it, but I worked hard to capture that yellow and wouldn't consider it a photographic fault: sometimes a cast of light is a feature and not a bug.

I love seeing your Korean wares! Especially the items picked up in the Tea Tour Korea trip! I almost signed up, but knew I wouldn't have enough vacation saved up to go on the trip!

As you may know Arthur Park is planning another TeaTourKorea for 2015. I'm not sure if this will be the last tour he is leading, but I would highly recommend it to anyone with an interest in Korean tea and ceramics. Arthur is extremely knowledgeable about both AND is extremely well connected with those who make tea and pottery there.

My new Hong Seong-Il wares arrived on Saturday! I've been busy experimenting ever since, but I wanted to make sure to snap some pictures of this pot before I put tea in it.
