Lvni and Mao Lvni firing temps
Anyone know how temp affects color for mao lvni and lvni, ie lighter or darker green or blue? Assuming a stable mix.
Re: Lvni and Mao Lvni firing temps
Mo Lv-ni is duanni or benshan lvni + cobalt oxide.
I always thought darkness is due to a content of cobalt, not firing temp. but I don't know why either. Little I know is those duanni or ben lv require high temp (almost over 1180c) to avoid 'black dots' while using. I heard this kind of clay is not easy to fire.

Anyone know what would happen if zini or hongni were mixed with cobalt?
Re: Lvni and Mao Lvni firing temps
Usually it's benshan lvni, I believe.
I think it'll be hard to categorically say nobody's tried to use anything other than benshan lvni, but I'd think the colours would be messed up. That said, why don't you ask your yixing making friends instead? We're not potters here, most of us.

They don't use any clays with chemicals, not to mention, I try to save my questions in Yixing for more important things. I would guess that the cobalt is added when the raw material is mixed up, so I'm assuming not by the potters. But regardless, my company's factory doesn't use any chemical additives for any clay. This is just me being curious.
But if you really want me to ask, MarshalN, I will.

No, it's just that you're more likely to get real answers than what you'd get here.
