This exhibition, running from November 15th through December 15th, 2010, features 45 pieces of John Baymore's recent clay work fired in his wood fired noborigama (multi-chamber hill climbing kiln) located at his studio in Wilton, New Hampshire. The work included is both yakishime (unglazed with fly ash deposits) as well as wood fired glazed wares. Pieces displayed range from serving platters to flower arranging vases to pieces specific to the Japanese Tea Ceremony (Chanoyu) such as chawan (teabowls), mizusahsi (fresh water containers), and chaire (tea caddies).

A couple of "installation" shots before the show was complete...... photos used to document the item tag numbers for pedestal labels:

In the above is a Ido style thrown chawan with a runny oribe green glaze on the upper part of the exterior of the piece, leaving the lower part with flowers in iron brushwork on the explosed fire-blushed clay. A couple of nice "rolls" of oribe glaze are under there too. The interior is glazed with tenmoku to "set off" the green matcha. The other items are a charie with a partial covering of a glaze composed of 1/2 NH granite. And an American carbon trap shino flower vase.

Above is a gourd-shaped flower vase with an oribe green glaze applied on the upper part on a coarse clay body.

Thanks john. Very lovely pieces and all in the shades of autumn! Some of my fave colors. Thanks for the explanations, especially visible is the 'flame path'.

When I first took a glance at your first photo, I thought you were wearing some type of 'space helmet'! Guess it's time to get new glasses!

When I first took a glance at your first photo, I thought you were wearing some type of 'space helmet'! Guess it's time to get new glasses!

Just a hachimaki . When I have let my hair get a little on the long side, it can get quite annoying. And when unloading, there is soot many places on the exterior of the kiln....and I hate trying to get that out of my hair as if blows against it.
