Pottery by Inge Nielsen - Chinese-inspired teaware

by inge » Feb 1st, '15, 07:11

Hello
I am a new member of this forum, though I have been lurking in the shadows for some years enjoying the photos and discussions posted here.
My name is Inge Nielsen, and I make Chinese-inspired teaware. I studied with potter Zheng Deyong in Taipei for four years while living there with my family, and since 2014 I have been working alone in my small studio here in Brussels, Belgium. I hugely miss the diverse community around my teacher, and this Teaware Artisan forum reminds me of the "show-and-tell" and "critique-and-advise" sessions that spontaneously took place in his studio every time the kiln was opened.... For me, it is a crucial element of pottery making.
By joining the forum here, I hope to share ideas about teaware, learn about preferences at the users' end, and hear honest criticism from fellow potters and tea drinkers alike. I am honoured to be in the virtual presence of potters like Michael Coffee, Petr Novak, Andrej Bero among others... it's daunting, indeed. But so is the presence of experienced tea drinkers, from whom I can learn a lot about how to improve my own craft.
By means of introduction, I post a few pictures here of some old and recent work. My recent work is still very much work-in-progress, as I am familiarising myself with the raw material available here in Europe. I humbly hope some of you will follow and guide that progress here!

You shared some beautiful pieces. Do you have a website link where we can view more of your work?

He also has a clickable link to his blog under his avatar.

I see Japanese flare to Inge "kyusu" including the standing on its handle.

Hello
Thanks for your comment.
I do have a blog with pictures of my work: www.mypottery.blog.com

I started that blog while a complete novice and it probably needs an overhaul by now, but the good side is that it documents my learning experience up until now, with all its hurdles and setbacks and perceived small successes... :) As they say of language, any knowledge is partial, and so it is with pottery, too, I think. It feels good to look back at the path trod.

Best
Inge

Hi Chip,
Thanks for your kind welcome and help, and more specifically for posting the Etsy link. I just have a small correction - I am a "she" not a "he" I think it is easy to make that mistake, as it is an unusual name outside of Northern Europe, and anyhow I think there are no female potters in this forum - am I right?

Best,
Inge

Oops, so sorry for making this assumption.

There were previously at least 2 other semi active female potters under the TeawareArtisan forum.

Having trouble opening your blog at the moment.

Further photos of old and new work. The reduction pieces are previous work from Taipei, for now I am limited to my electric kiln.

Hi Chip,
no problem at all.
I know, blog.com is often down these days... sorry about that. But the blog is there, hope you have time to stop by one day...

Hi John,
Thanks for your generous comments. You're right, I should learn to think more like this. Stop dreaming about the glazes I can't make, and try succeeding at what is within reach. My favourite oxidation glazes are oilspot and teadust. Still much work ahead for me on those glaze formulas and firing schedules... :)
