Would you me mind me asking what kind of clay that is?

Looks a bit like the colour one gets when doing a wood-firing, but more uniform.

Hi Bok, thanks for looking. The tea set you refer to was made in a finely grogged (10% 0-0,2mm), high-iron (around 5%) clay from Wallonia in the south of Belgium. Its max temperature is 1250 degrees Celcius. I was actually aiming for a more even glaze cover, but hey...

That first set is gorgeous Inge! The bulbous forms. Wish i had the money to grab it myself.

I got a happy delivery in the mail today! An unglazed kyusu from Inge. We had some shipping troubles, but Inge was extremely considerate and helpful. I just tried the pot with some 6 year old sheng ('09 Dayi 0622) and, based on what I remember from trying this same tea in a gaiwan a few weeks ago, the clay really seems to add sweetness to the tea, as well as backing the bitterness off. All in all I'm really happy with its first test run! I can't wait to experiment with it more! I want to try it with shu and very young sheng as well to see how it works out! Photos to follow when I have access to my wife's phone camera. (Mine is old and terrible!)

Fuut, thanks for your comment! It is encouraging. I am currently playing with different teaboat shapes. It's a slow process for me.

William: Oh, wow, thanks... I had a custom order for a lower, wider kyusu in this clay and made two. Normally I like the rounder, fuller shapes.

I, too, like this grogged body and how it fires to a toasty, uneven colour in oxidation. I get good feedback on its performance with oxidised teas. However, I decided to only work with this clay for custom orders in the future, because it does stain quite dark in use (curiously only on the outside), and I prefer that buyers take that into consideration before I turn the pots.

The flash definitely gave it a bit more of a yellow/orange hue! I never seem to be able to capture color well when taking photos in our kitchen.

Wow! After reading this I just went and took a look at it. Much more staining definitely appeared around the outside of the pot, but you're right. The inside has no staining whatsoever! Very curious!
