Movies about tea?

by purringtons » Jul 20th, '15, 02:53

not sure if i'm at the right board for this (apologies if i'm not!) but does anyone have movie recommendations that are tea-related? i don't mind documentaries but my two favourite ones are both biographical dramas about sen no rikyu - teshigahara's rikyu and kei kumai's death of a tea master :) it would be great to hear what everyone else watches~!

As you mentioned there are a few movies about Rikyu and Japanese tea ceremony, in Amazon it is sufficient to search for Rikyu.

Otherwise in YouTube there is a huge amount of tea related documentaries which I watch from time to time.

As yet anotehr option TeaDB has many YouTube movies not only reviews on particular types of tea but also on general tea related motives.

I have been digging for good documentaries on tea for a while now, and only recently have I found some that I really enjoy.

CCTV, a Chinese station, produced a bunch of really cool documentaries over the last decade. In particular, the ones I enjoy most are the Ancient Tea Horse Road, Tea Culture of the Wuyi Mountains, and Pu'er Tea - Yunnan.

Here are some links:

Ancient Tea Road: http://english.cntv.cn/program/document ... _tea_road/

Tea Culture of Wuyi Mountain: http://english.cntv.cn/program/document ... ndex.shtml

Pu-erh and Yunnan (pt1): http://english.cntv.cn/program/document ... 4251.shtml

Pu-erh and Yunnan (pt2): http://english.cntv.cn/program/document ... 3948.shtml

Also, if you use the search bar at the top of the page, you can search for all other sorts of cool documentaries about china. If you spend time digging around the site, you can find endless amounts of awesome documentaries about Chinese culture and history.

Enjoy!!!

If you're in the mood for something a bit silly, there's always Tea Fight (link is to a streaming version with English subtitles).

^hahah
I've seen some of the other movies and shows mentioned in the thread, but this is the first time I've seen that one. Going to have to check it out!
Kinda surprised to see Teruyuki in it, though. Only seem him in more serious films like Memories of Matsuko : p

Just finished watching (Tea Culture of Wuyi Mountain)..

Pretty watchable..I think a highlight was the appearance of 105-year-old Zhang Tian-fu at the end of the episodes. Long live the old man!

I recalled there was a Chinese TV series on tea.it was about a few families growing up in tea plantation and the competition to produce the best tea. I cannot remember the title and has been searching for it for years. Anyone has any recollection will be great.

What a great thread. Have bookmarked many of these links and will look out for a lot of the other suggestions.

I think any tea-related media can be found on video podcast subscriptions, YouTube (as others have mentioned; I look at documentaries on there, myself), Netflix/Amazon Video/Hulu Plus/etc.
