Had a couple of Gyokuro sessions from Mr Hagimura Seicha, whose company is Koshi Hagimura. I meet him at the Los Angeles tea festival this past fall and by chance a new friend gifted it to me at an oolong tasting I had at home this week. It is a very light, elegant and vegetal gyokuro with umami smoothness. Hand picked from 270acre farm at the foot of the Suzuka Mountains, Mie Prefecture.

Wish I had more leaf as I only got 4grams and the 1st round really needed double the leaf for my taste. Steeped at 2gr/2oz/120F/90sec in O-Cha's shibo should have been 4gr/2oz/120F/90sec. even so it was delicious.

Kinari is a sentimental tradition for me. I order it virtually every year and have preordered it this year. Partly because it is consistently very good. But mostly in memory of a member who became a dear friend who passed away very suddenly in 2012. Several of us would order it each year ... it was a thing we did together.davidglass wrote:Sincha KinariFerg wrote:Thanks for the heads up David! I appreciate it. In honor of Iannon, I made Maiko's Sincha Kinari this afternoon. Over the years, I've enjoyed reading his many posts. I'm still finishing a 2013 bag that was refridgerated; still smooth and vegetal with a sweet umami warmth. Did get bitter into the 3rd steep though possibly due to degradation since I opened the bag 10/2016 upps...Chip wrote:Kinari is a sentimental tradition for me. Re: Official what GREEN are you currently drinking?
Well, after reading through Ian's threads, I finally went through with the order. He was obviously very beloved by all in the community here, by members who have come and gone over the years. Would have liked the opportunity to have chatted with him myself. Very sad to have passed at such a young age, especially for his family.Chip wrote:

Ended up springing for a handful of Shincha Kinari and a Yamashita Gyokuro sampler. Looking forward to revisiting the SK and trying a variety of gyo! All out of sencha with that last cup of fuka.
Now, just waiting on O-Cha's offerings to become available...
Victoria, super late. I'll write more tomorrow.

I do not remember the Kinari always being a kabusecha!
