Need Help Choosing a Loose Leaf Matcha Iri Genmaicha

by tlunegov » Feb 11th, '18, 18:54

Hey guys,
I never particularly enjoyed tea. Black tea I would drink relatively rarely, green tea even less. The flavor never seemed fulfilling enough to me. Just recently, however, at a sushi restaurant, I fell in love with matcha iri genmaicha, or brown rice green tea blended with matcha. Immediately, I went home and ordered myself a bag. The tea was Takaokaya's Shizuoka Matcha Genmai-cha (https://www.amazon.com/Shizuoka-Matcha- ... =genmaicha). Now, this tea was more than satisfactory. However, I always liked the culture of drinking loose leaf tea, and have decided to find a loose leaf matcha iri genmaicha.
Thus, I have narrowed my search down to five teas and, having no prior knowledge of brand quality, etc. I have decided to ask some of you for suggestions. Please give any and all comments concerning what you know about these particular teas and?or brands. Thank you very much

1. Samovar Tea Lounge Ryokucha Organic Green Tea

2. Ocha & Co. Premium Organic Japanese Genmaicha Matcha Roasted Brown Rice Blend Green Tea
https://www.amazon.com/Ocha-Premium-Org ... op?ie=UTF8

3. Den's Organic Genmaicha with Matcha
https://www.amazon.com/Dens-Tea-Inc-Org ... cha+matcha

4. Hibiki-An Organic Genmaicha Matcha-iri

5. Ito En GENMAIMATCHA

6. Buying the loose leaf version of the bagged tea that I already own is also an option

Regards,
Tim

From the list, I'd go for Hibiki-An.

However, have you thought about Jugetsudo?
Might be a bit pricey, but their teas are good.

I would order from Den’s Tea. I’ve been drinking their genmaicha for years and it’s always as good or better than the Japanese-based companies I turn to for Gyokuro and sencha. Since you like roasted teas you might enjoy trying their variety of genmaichas and houjicas. I’m especially fond of their Tencha-Kuki Houjicha

I will definitely look into Jugetsudo, thank you.
If I were to add Ito-en and Maeda-en to the list, would your response change?
Thanks a ton

Maeda-en and Ito-en are decent brands, but I would say Lipton type of affordable, everyday brands.
