Maiko Shincha pre-orders are in and they are shipping by May 2nd! I'm gonna order as much Kinari as I can afford. Had it last year, 20ish dollars gets you a asamushi that easily rivals others in the 40ish range.

BTW, has anyone tried Den's previous offerings of the Hashiri Shincha and Shincha Kunpu?

Hashiri is interesting in its premise. It is pretty much harvested to be the first of the first of the first. You will see few vendors offer a Hashiri.
Hashiri can be problematic for some in that the tea is not quite as balanced at times as later harvested shincha.

This particular Hashiri was challenging for me to brew at first, but once I backed off on the amount of leaf and brewed it lighter, it was quite remarkable. I think every sencha fan should try a Hashiri at least once.

The Kunpu is an "88 night" shincha, a very traditional harvesting time in Japan. It is picked later than the Hashiri, but it is shincha. I found it to be more balanced than the Hashiri and not as intense, quite nice. In my mind, it is harvested at a more ideal time versus being the first of the first.

Bottom line, they are very different from each other, well in years' past.

Den's approaches shincha differently than most specialty vendors in that they first offer special edition shincha-s, then they later offer their regular sencha in shincha form.

Sorry for the dumb question, but did I miss the boat with the Sincha YM? It's not letting me add it to cart at this point.

If it is O-Cha, the owner said in the past, he has to enter an amount offered to the cart software programming. Once that is sold, he has to increase the value. I am sure it is not sold out yet.

I might drop him a line.

I hesitate to say this but there are other forums, and Keven runs one focused on Japanese green tea as part of his site. This is a great way to find out exactly what is going on with O-cha and just talk about Japanese greens.

Tastysencha, I checked the O-Cha site, and it seemed to work now for YM Shincha.

Let us know if it was a different site. Thanks.

Thanks for the info, Adam, but I was a member of that forum before you were born, son.

Anyway, it looks like umami-chaya is going to carry shincha afterall. They're not doing the whole pre-order thing, apparently they will just put it up for sale as it comes in. http://www.umami-chaya.com/shincha-c-72.html
