Mystery tea.Can you identify this tea? Maybe green?

by BioHorn » Apr 20th, '11, 21:36

Would someone please help me ID this tea?
A friend brought over a tea given to her by a tea aficionado friend of hers.

It was made up of very small buds. Like a Golden Buddha Hand size but green. It did seem to maybe have a light level of oxidation. Regardless I am including it here in Green. Had a slight yeasty profile to it.

We brewed up 5.5g in an 80ml porcelain Gaiwan.

Thanks!

Its a green tea

From Zhejiang province , Putuo mountain (one of the 4 holy mountains in Chinese Buddhism)

First 3 characters say putuo mt. last 2 say fo cha (Buddhist tea)

Here's a few examples of vendors...

Thank you very much for chiming in.
YOU WON A FREE TRIP TO CHINA! JUST PLEASE SEND YOUR MONEY ORDER IN THE AMOUNT OF $100 TO THE ADDRESS BELOW FOR PROCESSING. (okay, that is a joke!)

I guessed right!

It looks very close to the teaspring tea, higher quality. I would not go out of my way to buy it, but it does have some patience for multiple infusions. I was able to get more than one day of drinking out of it. Nice combination of flavors, multidimensional.

Sometimes those tiny tiny bud teas can be fun.
Sure looks like a lot of work.

Anyone know if these see any processing?

Hi, Yes indeed this is Putuoshan Fo Cha. I was just there a little over a month ago for a tea trip.

I found your post while searching for more info on the tea to see how well known it is.
