Need recommendations to try new senchas and Gyo at O-Cha!

by vink » Dec 4th, '14, 09:22

So I'm still new to all this but been a fan of mostly Japanese tea lately. I tried Miyabi, Yutaka Midori and Chiran sencha and I recently bought a small matcha kit. So for my next order I want to try new senchas and a gyokuro. Any recommendations on O-Cha? My wishlist contains Fukamushi Sencha Kaoru, Yame Gyokuro and Kabusecha. Not sure about kabusecha, is it cheap stuff? I also want to try an Asamushi but prices seems really high or really low so not sure what to make of it.

Of all the different sencha he's selling, Kevin, the owner of o-cha, told me that his personal favorite is Uji sencha Miyabi.

I have tried it and really liked it as well.

funny thing is, I have never been a huge fan of Miyabi. His Yutaka Midori on the other hand literally made me sit down ... it was so freakin' good.

Miyabi is also a personal favorite. Chip always praises the YM yet while it's lovely prefer the Miyabi; splitting hairs really! Having tried most all of the online Green Tea vendors numerous times over the years all-around Miyabi comes out at the top.

From O-Cha, the Chiran sencha, organic and non are also lovely teas for the price. The Oku Midori is also a gem; emerald specifically.

These are of course personal preferences and should be referred to as such...

Got some. Its nice. But to my taste not incredible. Very fresh tasting though. I generally prefer my Fuka more intact as find the taste of the really broken up ones a little unbalanced giving everything at once. Just ordered some more Aoi. Damn I love that tea. Possibly my number one tea at the moment.

My longtime favorite is Chiran (Kagoshima). I used to get it from Ito En, now I prefer O-Cha for price and quality. I think currently he is stocking an organic and a conventional.

I've tried the organic chiran from o-cha, and really liked it. Would definitely order again. :)
