Lochan was nominated and confirmed for our TeaVendor Guide under the Black Tea category. If you would like to nominate them to other categories, you may do this, otherwise limit discussion to their Black Tea offerings. Thank you! :D

I have not ordered from Lochan Teas, but I do have a question for someone who has.

I recently bought a few FF darjeeling from Upton. I paid around $24 for 100g of one of them. Today I was browsing Lochan's site and saw the same tea for $13! This is significantly cheaper, and I guess is attributed to the fact that Lochan is located in India.

So my question is; does the cost of shipping teas from Lochan to the US outweigh the cheaper (<$5) cost of shipping from Upton? What do you guys think? I could not find shipping costs on Lochan's website.

May I ask which tea you are considering?

It is the Castleton FTGFOP 1 CH SPL that is shared by both vendors. The exact prices (for 100g) 620 INR ($13.37) for Lochan, and $23.80 for Upton.

I've joined in a couple of tastings with Lochan this year. Essentially, the tea was free, but they charged for shipping, which ended up being $35 US/kilo. I can't vouch if that is their standard charge, but I can vouch that their tea is absolutely the freshest and among the best Darjeeling I've ever had!
