guitar9876, Tea-Yuan: Yancha and Puer

by guitar9876 » Jan 2nd, '15, 01:28

I was very fortunate to spend this past Summer in China, with my girlfriend, who is a native of Shandong province. The purpose of our travels was to visit her hometown of Jinan and on the side, we were going to keep our eyes out for any teas we might like to bring back to to the states for our own consumption. We were well aware of how hard it can be to find high quality tea without connections, so we didn't have high expectations.

As it turns out, we got lucky and met some amazing tea people who happily shared some of their best teas with us. With their help, we were able to find a source for very high quality, Zheng Yan Yancha. We are also offering a small selection of Puer from small scale producer, Tao Cha Ju.

We are students and this is our first attempt at ever running a business. Our main goal is to source quality tea for fellow tea lovers and make more tea friends! Would be interested to see what you guys think of the teas. Check us out here! :D

I would like to meet with you in April. I am in Thailand until then. I was lucky once here, finding a wonderful tea which I bought in quantity a few years ago. Coming to the end of that supply now. Lucky w/ a tea from Nepal which may inspire a hop over to there. (Not so far but fairly expensive though).
PM me if you like.

Haddemall, I think the business never got past the idea phase. I can imagine one's dreams of tea business being fun facing the hard reality of doing any business leading to abandonment. I have been lucky enough to find a few fantastic teas. To share my pleasure or to be able to buy cheaper, I have bought quantities greater than I can use myself. Thus, I know it is not easy to sell tea easily, not even truly superior tea at very reasonable prices.
Profit seems to be had from adding spices to tea dust & fancy packaging & names like Red Zinger.

Tea Yuan definitely got beyond the idea phase. I myself have purchased tea from Ben, as have many others.

I sent an e-mail today after reading your post. Thanks for posting. Cheers

Hey Everyone,
I'm sorry about the site email being down. Thanks for letting me know and it has been fixed. (Thank you Brian for responding before I even saw the post!)

Yes starting a business is quite an endeavor. We were fortunate to find a source for high quality Yancha during our time in China and since we often travel back and forth between China and the US, we thought it would be nice to make some of these teas available to fellow tea lovers in the west. Though it can be often complicated running a business, especially while in Grad school, we have no regrets! We are really grateful for our customers support thus far.

We are actually going to be back in China from May 18 though August and hope to come back with some new teas! We will be accepting orders but we will not be shipping until June as we get settled in China. If you are interested in placing an order please contact us at info@tea-yuan.com.

All the best,
Ben
