Like a Phoenix ... rising from the (kiln) ashes ... the Teaware SOP returns with something new, something old.

In spectacular fashion, the TeaChat Special Offer Program resumes with a very special offering of 11 Tokoname Kyusu created by famous artisan Gisui (see his profile below). These are new creations, you may have seen some older Gisui Kyusu on Artistic Nippon's site recently. I have been looking for Gisui Kyusu for some time now for myself, they were virtually "unobtainium" at any price. There was one recently under TeaChat TeaSwap, and I am happy with one I purchased from another member.

Toru of Artistic Nippon at my urging went to Gisui's kiln/school looking for a Kyusu for me, maybe shudei (red clay), maybe mogake (seaweed wrapped kyusu which is then fired creating unique firing scores and markings).

I was not optimistic as I understood Gisui was retired from production and was enjoying his time teaching others at his kiln/school. In fact Toru stated when I asked, he had not seen any shudei nor mogake from Gisui.

But Toru surprised me with 11 Kyusu of 7 differing styles. Each one is quite unique, no two alike one-offs. Styles include honshudei, shudei, mogake, etc ... traditional with one whimsical exception!

Instantly I thought, wow, what a great possible opportunity to revive the SOP and "share some Gisui Kyusu love!"

I had planted seeds with Toru a few years ago, and he was now very interested in doing this with/for the TeaChat community members who have been generous to him over the years.

Further, Toru is offering these to TeaChat at prices far below what my research had found over the last year or so. I was expecting much higher prices. I believe the prices are extremely fair, reasonable for Gisui Kyusu! And for the record, I do not make money on this. Just sharing the teaware love!

***********IMPORTANT, DIRECT ANY AND ALL QUESTIONS TO ME EITHER IN THE "LIKE A PHOENIX" TOPIC OR HERE (once this topic is live) OR VIA PM OR VIA EMAIL AT teachat@adagio.com. DO NOT DIRECT QUESTIONS TO TORU @ artisticnippon.com. HE WILL REDIRECT YOU TO ME.

It is a part of our agreement in offering this special collection to TeaChat that any questions will be directed to me, partly to avoid confusion ... and for consistency. And partly to alleviate the labor he would have to put into this undertaking. This is part of the way the SOP runs. Individual members will not gain an advantage or head start by contacting Toru. Level playing field.

Also, directions on how to participate will be explicitly spelled out when this topic goes live. Again, do NOT contact Toru to order, he will redirect you to me.

OK, so this is how this round will work.

Obviously at 11 Kyusu (minus 1 for the "TeaChat SO Virtual Museum" with yours truly as the curator  ) there are only so many opportunities available. An offering of Gisui Kyusu is a rare event and we are very fortunate to have such a fine grouping.

In order to be fair ... or as fair as possible ...

1. I will post the particulars along with photos 2 hours before the SO going live on Thursday, February 19, 2015 at 6pm US East time [UTC - 5] Eastern Standard Time Zone. Members can use this time to make selections. So, the preview should be up here by 4 pm.

2. Members of TeaChat may respond via email to teachat@adagio.com at the designated time or later. Members are asked to email at least several selections in order of preference. Doing so will enhance member chances of being successful. By emailing, members are saying they are committing to the purchase of a Gisui Kyusu.

Include in your email
Several selection #'s in order of preference!
TeaChat name
Your name
Your exact mailing address as it would appear on a mailed package
Your country
Your phone number, may be needed for customs
Your paypal email address.

3. We are going back to doing this on a strict first come, first served basis. Alternate methods all had more problems than the few they were trying to solve.

Time will be based on the world clock site for NYC. You can view the clock here:

http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/usa/new-york

Successful members will be notified ASAP, please be patient as this can become a bit complicated despite its seemingly simple approach. I will do everything possible to notify everyone the same evening.

... hmmm, if I am able, I will post the previews early. It is a matter of editing all the photos (too large) and doing all 11 posts.

If I find the time ... I will post them as soon as all the photos and posts are completed.

OK, I am 24 hours ahead of schedule. Whew ... look for the preview to begin shortly. The SO will still go live at its original designated date and time!!! Til that time, this topic is locked.

These are intentionally randomly posted. Just pay attention to the printed Kyusu number, you will need that when you email me.
