Tead Off: For sale-Hagi Kensui

by Tead Off » Jan 6th, '10, 05:42

In my continuing effort to downsize my collection of teaware and my nagging wife threatening me with her frying pan (just kidding, she is very sweet), here is another 'thing' to consider adding to your collection.

A Hagi Kensui. H: 7.2cm / 2.75" x W: 15cm / 5 7.8". A Kensui is a waste water bowl. I used it mostly for Chinese teas (flash rinsing or water poured off after warming cups). This is an interesting shaped bowl with a very soft feeling glaze. There's quite a bit of differentiated color inside. It is in excellent condition. There is one kiln crack which you can see on the surface in one of the photos. Nothing to worry about. There is lovely crackling in the glaze that you can see in the photos. The inside is smooth and doesn't leak, but, it may condense a bit. No big deal. A Kensui of Hagi is not so easy to find. Hopefully, a Hagi lover will adopt it. My guess at age is between 10-20 years. Signed at bottom but don't know the artist's name. $29 + shipping.
