ethan: Jun Chiyabar HOR black tea

by ethan » Apr 5th, '15, 09:39

Please see post in black tea:

Reminder: This is as good as it gets. Aroma & flavor abound in a complex, satisfying, interesting tea. 2 grams in 8 oz. of boiling water for 2 infusions makes this economical as well.

Organic, from Nepal's tea gardens, this is as good as the best darjeeling tea of India

Long-lingering aftertaste & pleasant mouthfeel

100 grams in re-sealable top quality pouch $19 plus shipping

It's a terrific tea that I've been drinking for over 2 years. People should grab this stuff.

But is it "as good as the best darjeeling tea of India"?

sherubtse,
I drank a phenomenally good darjeeling tea served by a friend who carefully watched my face looking for an expected expression of pleasure & wonder, which he did see. Then he told me that was the best darjeeling gets. Anyone would recognize that tea had so much going for it, even if it was not one's favorite.
Jun Chiyabari Himalayan Orange (HOR) is not identical to his tea, but to me matches the quality & has so much going, one knows he is experiencing something ulitmately.... The flavors are bold, a friendly slap in the face; whereas my friend's darjeeling was a slap that did not just say, "Wake up & enjoy this," but rather "You are forbidden not to enjoy this".
Wow, I am no poet. To put it more simply:
HOR is not subtle but more subtle than that wonderful tea which overwhelmed me a bit (but we would all be glad to be so overwhelmed). HOR is not overly astringent as many very good darjeeling teas are; &, it has a great aftertaste that lingers longer. I have not encountered a tea w/ more aroma, nor met anyone who has not loved HOR's aroma.
I have not gotten strongly tea drunk on HOR, but do get a feeling of well-being-- mentally & physically. If I want to think about where that feeling rests or begins after I have finished drinking, it is in my throat, mouth, & belly. I won't say it is chaqi, but just what I feel is fine & would not trade it for qi or whatever.
HOR is not good for steeping 10 infusions that are different from each other, as is done w/ oolong & pu. If I crave that kind of play, I can vary steeping time, sometimes drinking 2 1/2 minute tea or going all the way up to 5 minutes (though 3 minutes is clearly ideal for me). For variety, for my second or the rare third session of HOR in one day, I may use a thick-walled glazed pot instead of the fairly thin porcelain gaiwan usually favored. Hints of citrus flavors may become notes of citrus, while notes of spice might become hints.....
Of course, my saying, "It does not get any better than this," is bold. I can say it by knowing HOR remains delicious, interesting, & satisfying though drunk day after day for several months or so. I have never enjoyed any beverage more than this black tea (or food); & black tea is not even my favorite category of tea (oolong is).
Sherubtse, buy some pouches from me; so, I have an excuse to give you a sample of HOR. Or, let's trade your best tea(s) for some HOR. I'd love to find an even better tea, if it exists; & love to get your response to Jun Chiyabari Himalayan Black Tea.
All the best, Ethan

The HOR can be brewed gongfu style successfully, giving several brews. Occasionally, I will brew it this way for a change.

HOR is not as fruity as some of the great Darjeelings, but its body is very satisfying. Geographically, the locations are quite close as its grown in Eastern Nepal, close to the Indian border. Very remote areas not easy to get to. Amazing that this tea cannot be bought retail in Nepal. All of it is exported!

Thanks Ethan. I am steeping a cup tonight. It shows some great qualities. Nice maltiness, tolerates many steepings, is pleasant to drink and compares with other big name company high-end darjeelings.

I suggest it for all intersted in this style of tea. It is at a very attractive tea at a nice price point. Thank you for sharing.

3 more days: HOR for sale through June 18

I'll be packing all of my tea away from any potential summer heat on June 19th; furthermore, I'll be totally "incommunicado" from June 30 through August 5th (no computer, telephone, etc.).

So, if anyone wants this great tea from Nepal, please order now.

Thanks.
