Tea shops/rooms in Tokyo

by Pig Hog » May 28th 15 12:32 pm

Hi all

So I'll be in Tokyo for four days or so, later this year and I'm trying to plan a few things to do.

It'd be nice to get to a good kissaten or other tea related shop, for the experience more than anything. I'm not so interested in buying tea to bring back, as I can get that online (teaware, on the other hand, is another matter) but can anyone recommend a couple of good places just to go and visit?

To be honest, I'm planning a kind of day trip out of Tokyo too, so anywhere notable close by would be equally appreciated.

If you're interested in Sayama Tea, Saitama Prefecture is close by. The tea farms/shops are nice or the town of Kawagoe, which has a wonderful teahouse above a teashop.

- sorry it's in Japanese. If you walk the main street, Kurazukuri Street, just about at the end is the teashop/house. And it's not a very long street so it's easy to find.

Here's are some places which I have visited before.

There is a Japanese Sencha Cafe called Chachanoma(茶茶の間) located at Harajuku. They offers specialty Sencha to customers. Recently, the shop offers a new menu on Kakikoori(カキ氷) with Japanese Tea, including Sencha, Hojicha and Maccha.

If you are looking for black tea, tea rooms like "The Darjeeling" (ザ・ダージリン) and "Janat" are all really good shops too.

Wish it may be useful to you.
