Alcohol seems to me like a much more effective way to have a buzz
Re: Anyone get drunk off tea
I've been tea'drunk', I only achieve it by drinking shu pu'erh or really fresh green tea and it won't always happen, depends how much you have been eating and stuff.

I have, by drinking several cups of tea in close succession on an empty stomach. The buzz is actually not that great.

I find that "tea drunk" and overcaffeination are two different things. Too much caffeine, especially on an empty stomach, can make you feel quite sick. This is different from the feeling that many people refer to as tea drunk. Some describe a feeling a euphoria with a strong sense of focus and calm. The thing is that just like caffeine, everyone experiences it differently. Your mood, what you ate that day, and a million other factors could make this more or less likely to happen. I've really only ever experienced it from really good quality raw puerh (specifically mao cha rather than compressed tea).

I get Teadrunk generally from the greener oolong. High quality dancong can do it everytime.
Feels like being intoxicated off some wine or champagne.
Relaxed, sleepy, giggly, and somewhat numb are the general feelings associated with it for me.

For me it's green tea that does it...I get calm and sleepy and my muscles are relaxed. It often puts me right to sleep.
Re: Anyone get drunk off tea
I have also been tea-"drunk" by drinking sheng puerh ... but can we really say "drunk" with tea since you remains perfectly lucid :
that's it ...a feeling a euphoria with a strong sense of focus and calm

I almost exclusively get it from white teas and most sheng pu and so quickly and intense at times that I'm glad I don't experience anything of that sort with my daily share of Himalayan leaves.
Re: Anyone get drunk off tea
It's real. I've experienced it from drinking sheng puer but the caveat with this is usually the tea has to be above average quality.
Re: Anyone get drunk off tea
Yeah I've been "tea drunk"...usually after back to back gong fu type sessions where I may go through as much as 14g of tea leaf rather quickly (usually an oolong of one type or another).
Definitely much different than the feeling of too much caffeine. In fact I tend to feel very relaxed, happy, and almost sleepy, I suppose due to the other compounds in tea that may balance or alter the effects of caffeine.
I hesitate to call it "drunk" though, since I've never noticed that it resembles alcohol intoxication

I found this YouTube video on Tea Drunkenness recently and they seem to echo what is being said in this thread. Seems like the aged white tea is a winner and not on a full or totally empty stomach. Search youtube for Tea Drunk and you will find the video with Don Mei.Curtis wrote: I've googled an found out this to some what true..so I womt to know if anyone has, getting a buzz off tea.
