tibetan teapots

by go green » Oct 29th, '07, 20:01

Just wondering if anyone has a tibetan teapot or if you could tell me anything about them. I see many on ebay...they are very pretty/different and was curious about them. Thanks!

Honestly, they scream "danger, Will Robinson" to me. There are just so many--often identical--pots from so many vendors going for such cheap rates that my mental equation does not balance. I've not bought one, so I can't speak as to their quality, but I wouldn't trust my leaves in them.

I'd bypass them entirely and invest in a cheap yixing pot and a gaiwan. There are some reputable E-bay vendors that can help you there, primarily Yunnan Sourcing LLC, Chinese Teapot Gallery, and Dragon Tea House.

Buy a Tibetan teapot or two...and put it on your display shelf to never ever be used.

I agree with Mary...survival instinct should probably kick in here. Just too scary.

Tibetan teapots

by maureen » Jan 1st, '08, 04:58

Hi, I'm new here, I just happened to fluke on this site when I was looking up info on the tibetan teapots for sale on Ebay. I read the comments and took notice of the general apprehension of your members to purchase any, so I'll just come right out and tell you that I had a few brew last night and my gift card was twitching in my hand, so.. I had a few more to make it stop... and then I bought one. So, now I guess I'll wait to see if it actually arrives and then I'll let you all know if I'll ever make drunken purchases again.

Maureen, let's hope that this compulsive buy can still lead to goodness by you letting us know how the pot performs.

After thinking about this subject a while...I would still put the pot on the shelf, tell folks, "this is a rare pot from Tibet." Then make sencha with my kyusu and believe I made the right decision.
