Thrift store purchase

by Chuck50 » Feb 15th, '19, 14:46

I bought a tea set at a thrift store for $10. The artwork on the teapot does not look very good to me. I am wondering if this was a worthwhile purchase or not. I am attaching photos of the tea set, the teapot, and the mark under the lid. Will anyone help me?

Hey Chuck50, it would be helpful to post a photo of the dragon and the fish from the pot, a photo of the inside possibly with the filter. Also check to see if the cups have any marks, underneath the handle. I also bought a set that I have been searching on, it seems to boil down to craftsmanship, clay type, and the marker. For 10 dollars, that’s like 2 cups of coffee, I would say worth it, genuine or not. I don’t have any photos of my set, but I notice my set has a few marks. 4 cups with 2 different makers, and the teapot marker is also different from cup makers.

Does it brew well? That’s really all that matters with poorly made pots like this one. Looks to be a low end non factory pot.

Hey Zared and Chuck50, here are a couple photos of the lid, body, and the inside of the pot. There is a very visible dot that seems to be metal-like inside of the pot when I sand it off. If anyone know what that dot maybe, please let me know. I am planning to just use a dremel to sand it off eventually.

For 10 USD, it's hard to be a bad purchase, especially if it brews ok. If I look at the finishing it's not great craftsmanship, so most likely indeed a factory teapot.
