Yixing ID (please help!)

by TeaWren » Mar 18th 20 5:47 pm

Hey all!

I recently bought two yixing (hopefully) teapots as on a trip. I have enjoyed reading posts here from many of you who have such a wealth of knowledge. I'm hoping you can help me by graciously lending some of that knowledge to assist me in figuring what I have in my hands here!

Here is pot #1: https://imgur.com/a/fN5WT2i

Bought for roughly $90. Seems to be a newer made pot. It is about 80cc, has a 7-hole filter, feels nice in the hand, lid is tight, smells of clay and nothing else when heated, gives off a nice high ring when hit with the lid, and generally feels like a nicely balanced and dense/thin pot in hand. Can anyone tell me what the clay/quality appears to be? I bought this pot hoping to use it for greener rolled oolongs.

Here is pot #2: https://imgur.com/a/AkxiYcu

Bought for roughly $45, 100cc, single hole filter. This pot seemed like a bigger risk in buying as it feels clunkier, doesn't have a tight fitting lid, and feels less well-made generally. The lid is tight enough, not lots of dripping, but not super tight. Seems to be an older pot. Gives off a dull, lower pitched clink when hit. There is only a clay smell, nothing weird there. Any guesses as to its composition? Hoping it's a usable pot.

Thanks in advance for your best guesses!

Just bumping to see if anyone can lend a hand!

Perhaps you all get tired of these threads asking for ID-related help. If so, sorry for bugging you! Hope everyone is hanging in there and doing OK.

I'm very appreciate of all the information contained on this board.
Thanks!
