Wooden Fish Stone

by Nin Ja Cha » Jan 21st, '10, 17:33

I've recently acquired some tea ware made from muyu, or wooden fish stone. The little information that I can find about it says that it leaches 27 minerals into the tea, but I've also noticed it adds a strange taste. Does anyone out there have experience with using muyu stone teapots? Any ideas on what teas would be complemented by the earthy taste it imparts?

MuYu Stone is the marine deposit 550-580 million years ago with the stripes and colored in purple. It is the precious stone of China. The earliest records of the function of the MuYu Stone can be traced back to as early as Ming Dynasty in Compendium of Medica written by Li Shizheng. It consists of plenty of strontium, phosphorus beryllium, cobalt, zinc, lithium, etc.and can cure cough and is beneficial for heart, stomach as well as the other organs. The tea set made of MuYu Stone can not only delay the corruption of tea,but also keep the tea fresh and punfied. It has the function of anti-oxidation, anti-decreption and guard against hypertension, arteriosclerosis, cancer, lower the cholesterol in the blood, nourishing the kidney and stomach and prolong the life.Through drenching, many elements such as selenium, zinc, iron, cobalt, strontium, Fluorine and manganese can be released. If it is soaked in water for two hours, the water will be close to or reach the standards of the high-quality mineral water.

No, I am not selling anything in bad English. Haven't heard of maifan stone. Just ran across a ceramic gaiwan called CTS liven that is described as improving waer quality with some infrared emitting glaze... sounds questionable.

^ i scanned the instruction manual or whatever that came with it.

i rinsed it out a bunch and then left some water in it.
the water ends up smelling like.. rain water with minerals and rocks and stuff

have you guys ever had 'throat coat' tea by traditional medicinals? http://www.traditionalmedicinals.com/pr ... roat-coat/

the smell also somehow reminds me of that as well. weird

i'm in the process of trying to evaluate its effect on tea

aaaaaaa

You should keep encrypted tea in there because
It has the function of ... anti-decreption
However
also keep the tea fresh and punfied
and there are way too many tea puns already

it definitely did something to water, but i stopped using it ultimately because it developed a leak

before that though, i remember thinking that it's not something i'd use every time because the intensity of the stone/mineral smell and taste was a little distracting..
