Hey guys. Saw some interesting tea pets and companion here. My teapet isn't exactly for 'rearing' but just fun to watch. It's a qilin if I'm not mistaken and it changes colour as hot water is poured over it. I have seen pi xiu being sold as well and it turns jade green when hot water is poured over it. I chose this because this colour is rare and the shape of this qilin attracts me.

On further read this might actually be a pi xiu instead of qilin. :)

Very cool! I've only got one, and it's supposed to shoot water, but I haven't tried yet. I just broke it out yesterday, and was thinking of tinkering around with it.

Thanks for the motivation!

(Now I need one of those)

I'm curious as to how a paint can change colour upon contact with hot water. Anyone who is expert in this field? :)

Maybe this would interest you? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thermochromism

I've never owned a color changing tea pet, but I've wondered, it's definitely the heat changing it, right? Like, if you poured cool water over it after it changed, would it change back? Or does cool water change it at all when at its default color? Also, would sitting it in front of a heater or something cause it to change? Someone I know once had a toy that changed colors with heat and they left it in a small room with the heat on high before and came back to find it changed so perhaps the same could apply to them?

Either way, nice pet!

Thanks for the link. If cool water is poured over the teapet when the colour have changed then it will change back to the original colour. It is definitely by temperature of the water. It changes pretty fast once it starts to cool.

I got a 3-legged frog that changes color to gold when hot water is poured over. I'll post pics later.
It's super cool!

While not a "traditional" tea pet, meaning hanging out in the waste-bowl or waiting to have water poured over it, I have a little blue duck with blue and purple hair. (think Koosh ball, but a small duck) He has a special significance... and so joins me on quite a few sessions when I am brewing alone.

The pic is over the width limit, so here's a link to it instead, if I may:

Hi Guys,

Noob here :)

I have to say CLYDE is adorbs!!! and that color changing Tea Pet is insane! I want one of those!!! <insert drooling emoticon here>

I really like how some people call it a tea companion... so comforting. I thought I'd share a photo of my tea companion/pet/mascot. I'm certain she was not meant to be a tea pet but I thinks she's gorgeous nonetheless... I wish I could find other animals similar to the style of her design :(
