I don't need my pots and cups to match, but sometimes there's a cup that looks just right for a certain pot. This yunomi is made from the same clay and has the same glaze as my new shib. I think they look beautiful together. I've been wanting one of Shaun's cups with this glaze, and I'm happy that I waited for just the right one.

Very striking and different with that soft glow of the unpolished surfaces--how is the tea?

it is very hard to judge if it actually adds anything to the tea, it is bigger than most of my teapots and I have not done a set measure of a specific tea with the same amount of are to really compare. But my first impression was the tea was smoother, a "rounder" mouth feel. It is very heavy and get quite hot, so that is a factor too .

Love the varied textures and shaded colors on that glaze.

Anyway, i got myself a new mizusashi a few days ago. Typical Seto style. Please see.
Original photo's one page back.

This mizusashi was delivered today, and truly is something beyond what i had expected. Its heavy and thick walled and has quiet the intriging glaze (although there's quiet a lot of variation if you see the 360 degree view), i tried to make some photo's capturing something special, but failed rather miserably, in one of the photo's its slightly visible but perhaps one percent of what i see when i have it in my hands :)

Ehm my photo's got flipped to the left 45 degrees.. well first picture i have uploaded elsewhere - goo.gl/JsKa4o (it doesn't want to do the link thing).

Mainly because the 640 something size restraint is just terrible for trying to point something out. Now in the higher resolution you can kind of see certain really bright spots of yellow, on the rim and in the lower left - 2 bright points next to each other slightly off-angle, these are the effects i was trying to capture. Its like a thick 3d crystalline structure that reflects light on the inside. All in all pretty sweet mizusashi for 50,- bucks, say 45 euro's.

Amazing piece. I wish I knew how he manages that golden shine.

Hey Shawn! I found this from the potter:
"Although the components of the glaze remain secret, the artist will concede that no precious metal is used in the process. Unlike Hideyoshi's gold covered tea bowl, the radiant character of yōhen-kin shino is born inside the kiln."

Got two of these replica Ming Dynasty Chenghua stem cups from a vendor today...he sent them along and didn't tell me. I quite like them and they seemed to enhance the taste of my tea!
