Lead glazes - is this a problem?

Lead glazes puzzle me a lot. I know that lead has been used as a flux in raku pottery. Recently I have acquired a sansai teabowl by Seigan Yamane and have read that sansai is also lead glaze.

Once browsing tea pages I have come over a raku teabowl that was described as lead free.

I have heard that high firing temparature makes lead glazes safe.

That do you know about the problem? Please share...
