Tokoname help question . . .

by augie » Jan 19th, '08, 23:26

I just got my first ever teapot yesterday. Waiting for more tea - nearly out.

What are everyone's recomendations for getting started using it? Just rinse with hot water and start brewing? Is it like yixing - only brew 1 specific tea in it? Do you use it only for green tea in general? thanks in advance for your help.

I use it primarily for sencha. But also white tea. It's not as famously porous as yixing, but brewing a strong oolong or puerh in it would probably ruin your next batch of sencha.

Before drinking out of it, just thoroughly rinse it with hot/boiling water, then wipe dry with a towel.

ENJOY!!!!!!

Thanks, sounds too easy!

Working on the picture -- don't get excited though. I am very low-class. I have a flute, piano and french horn to pay for plus their lessons so there isn't much $$ in the teapot fund!

Hope this works!

I just realized this totally clashes with my lovely formica countertops. Now I need to get a new one. . . This came from o-cha

It's an O-cha pot!! :D
Looks awesome Augie, congratulations!

I need a pot in that shape, but before I do, I need one of those completely spherical ones.

Beautiful pot and thanks for the glimpse of your gaiwan and kettle! What tea is that in the back ground?

You're right, you'll need to change your countertop to go with your kyusu.

This is the only tea left to my name right now. I ordered tea also from O-cha, however it comes separately. The pot came rocket fast! I clicked the order button Wed. at 4:00 p.m., and the pot arrived at work with Friday's mail.
I also have some pu ehr mini toucha in the background. However I am not in the mood for pu ehr lately. I found I had to split the samples as they were too large.

It was tough to pick - they were all reasonable. The dragonfly pot was too $$$. I like the glazed pots - in your opinion is there any difference between glazed and not?

I had to cut open a Mighty Leaf tea bag and try it - my tea stash is gone. The only problem I had was rinsing out the spent leaves. Round pot might be more difficult to clean out?

Overall, I am very satisfied. It's very easy and convenient. That crazy gaiwan in the background is awkward. I need to shop around for another one.

Houjicha
Shizuoka Green Tea Daily Sencha

Unfortunately, those aren't as speedy delivery as the pot. Hopefully worth the wait.
