Those tins from rishi look really nice and the double lid is exactly the kind of thing I'm looking for, but I too think 12 oz is quite a lot. Trioxin, how full do you usually have any one tin? I had planned on picking up a couple containers for ageing oolongs...

EDIT: Ok my thinkng was somewhere else there, I for some reason computed 12 oz volume as HUGE... but in any even I'm still curious about how much tea can fit in one of those

It won't hold fully 100g of Wuyi, but it will dwarf 100g of sencha. So, "it depends."

What he said. Some teas though, I can't even fit 100 grams. To put them in perspective, they are about the size of a can of coke.

4 oz of darjeeling
3.2 oz of siliver needle
3 oz of baozhong
probably 5 oz of any rolled oolong
4 oz of fuka sencha
3 oz of wuyi

Those are what are in mine right now just to give you an idea of the size.

I really like the black Rishi tins, but I wonder if you're thinking about another tin with the size. They are more like 6-8 fluid ounces size, and generally hold approx 4-5oz of tightly rolled leaf; they are about 2 inches wide by 4 inches tall. The Tao of Tea tins, which are basically the same but bigger, are more like 12 fl oz size and can hold about 10oz+ of tightly rolled leaf or almost exactly 100g of yancha (if you tap it on the side to settle the leaf as you put it in); these are 3.5 inches wide by 4 inches tall.

These are actually my favorite tins. Tao of Tea has both the bigger size in black as well as some smaller tins that hold just about 2-3 oz of tightly rolled leaf (all the same style as the Rishi tins except that the Tao of Tea tins have a knob on the inner lid). They also all stack well; particularly the Rishi tins which have a formed lid specifically for stacking. I don't know why they're not on the site, but they are most of what they sell in the store.

All 20+ of my tins were ordered from the rishi website. 2.5" x 4.5", 12oz by water volume. Same size as a 12oz can of coke. They hold 3 - 4oz loose leaf, 5- 6oz tight rolled leaf.

Okay, you're right. I was thinking that a 12oz can was a bit bigger, but I just pulled one of each out and compared and they are indeed the same. (I've got about 30+ of the Rishi tins myself :) )

Ever wonder how we're going to drink all of this tea we've collected?

Heh, the bulk of mine will age to some degree and the vendor ran out some time ago, so I just end up hoarding it and not wanting to drink it :X

Ageing is actually my main interest in tins like these mentioned. I'm looking for something that will hold around 100g or so, the ones from rishi would probably fit my needs (although I really like the look of the ones from tao of tea, they seem to be around the same size as the ones from rishi). I think about 4 of them would be a good start

The ones from Tao of Tea hold twice as much or half as much, depending on the size you get :)

I only see one size on their website, a "classic" size.

I always was eyeing these from Den's tea:

http://www.denstea.com/index.php?main_p ... 51daa321ba

Says they hold about 200g of tea, not sure if its refering to 200g of japanese green tea or what. Anyone know anything about these ones? :P

Tao of Tea tins are twice the size of Rishi's. They do have 2 different colors (silver or copper) and they are a little different design but same size. I have both style and Rishi ones. Why not just by some of each!
