I have one of his chawan as well, one with an oil spot glaze. I think his style is very youthful, always using dynamic forms and a large variation of different glazes. I feel he's a young artist, but a rising one.

Hi Seeker and Fuut,
I'm glad to be here at TeaChat

I enjoy many different kind of teas. As for matcha, one of the things I like so much is that it gives me a "calm energy"

as opposed to the "nervous energy"

that coffee gives me.
(sorry for my funny descriptions; English isn't my native language)

Ah yes, i know exactly what you mean. Although lately i haven't found the moment (that sometimes comes to me) to brew me some matcha. But i also like the preparation to it, in contrast to putting the coffee machine on and waiting for it to finish;)

Keep on sharing, i'll see about making some photo's soon again:)

You guys have some amazing chawan. I've only got the one that I started out with, which I believe is Mino Yaki.

I'm going to Japan in May...hoping to find a few pieces to add to my collection. If not, I may treat myself to something online when I get back!

I'd quite like a nice hira chawan, I think.

PH - while I am a HUGE fan of chawan, I am not well versed in nomenclature for styles, shapes, glazes, etc. Can you tell us what 'hira' means? Also - hopefully you'll pick up an amazing chawan in japan (or online) and share with us!

Hira means flat -- a hira chawan is the flatter, shallow style, generally used during the summer, as opposed to the more widely seen style with high sides.

I think there are a few examples of hira chawan in this thread.
