Ode to the Kyusu

A lot of baby bottles now come with long thin rubber tubes, so the bottles don't have to be held upside down by the child. There are brushes which are designed for cleaning out the tubes. They are on long thing wire handles which flex. They are perfect for cleaning out spouts. You can find the brushes anyplace that sells baby things.

btw, is it possible for tea stain to build up so much that the porcelain just feels rough? or is it the glaze itself wearing out? any problems either way?

If you are talking about around the rim of the kyusu that actually looks like its unglazed, which may make it harder to clean. But I do not think there are really any problems provided its cleaned enough, perhaps if you have access to bleach soak in a bleach and water solution for awhile and that should kill just about anything and whiten the stains.

Sometimes the rough stuff is tea stained scale ... from what you have already stated, this was NOT an uber maintained kyusu.

That's a great looking kyusu. Yeah it can build up till it feels rough. I' try a good long soak in white vinegar. If that doesn't work, maybe try denture tablets. Good luck! It's lovely.

Well, here it is, my first Kyusu. It was made by Teruyuki. Thanks to Toru at Artistic Nippon for the extra work he did to get it for me. It came with a box that he had to get personally from the Teruyuki. The box has ties (Yea!).

Thank you guys. I had been looking at it for a long time. I think it's the first one that I've seen that I really wanted. I'm really happy with it. I'm also really impressed with the effort Toru went to for me. Artistic Nippon is blocked in China for some reason and he and Chip figured out which one it was via my description. He was sold out of them, so he personally went to buy more and chose this one for me. I also requested a wooden box, which he said the artist doesn't normally make for this particular Kyusu, but he talked him into it.
