Brewing up some 1999 Kunming Factory Red in Red tonight from Origin Tea. Teapot is an early 90s QSN from the same place and the lovely boat is from Andrzej Bero.
The tea has spades
of dried fruit taste. First brew in about 15s after rinse was perhaps a bit muted and was mainly fruit and thick lovely oily consistency. I may be using slightly less tea than ideal for the vessel. Pushing the second steep for at least 30-45s reveals some lovely kuwei and a faint note
of camphor blending in nicely. This is great. The qi is not crazy strong, but relaxing and the body feels good. Third steep is slightly shorter and I forget about making mental notes and just enjoy the tea.
Time to go back to the tea!

Baptizing a new cup from Shyrabbit with some Lao Ban Zhang. As anticipated, this cup is wonderfully sized and shaped for many quick small infusions; and the tea is holding its own against some superbly garlicky quinoa with nuts for a light supper.

A wonderful and enjoyable afternoon
of tea session with kyarazen.
We had 2013 Mengku from 3 counties, a semi fermented Dong Ding.
2005 DXS, 2002DXS, Ta Kou Zhong with red oil kyara... And a Tie Loh Han for dessert.

1994 8582 from houde. Very wierd seaweed smell/taste. I have only had this taste one other time in an 89 baozhong. I liked it in the oolong but it is disappointing in The 8582. I have only tried this tea once before a while back. But after trying it I bought two more samples as I thought it was a really good 90's 8582. It tasted nothing like this before.

Hrm, I think this is one that I re-tried recently. I don't recall having an odd experience. Any idea what happened?

No clue. It has been sealed in the sample pack since I bought it. I am going to try it again soon.

Recently i've tried a few samples from puerh.sk several months after i've received them and they had in common a slight seaweed taste... i'm pretty sure the problem was the samples plastic bags : they were too thin and smelled plastic.
In your case maybe you should air out the sample for a reasonable period of time and repack it into a good bag, but i guess you've already anticipated all this

Yeah, I've had that experience with several samples that were in plastic bag. I don't think of it as seaweed. It's far more obnoxious than seaweed. I wouldn't mind seaweed as a taste in my tea, because that's a nice umami taste...

it was a 2010 Manmai sample i bought several months ago, it smelled weird and i forgot it. I brewed it these days and i found a little something of seaweed that made the sips very mouth-watering and satisfactory... this was probably both enhanced by the minerals from the water i use (sodium?), and somewhat hidden by the tanins of the tea, but i really enjoyed this uncommon characteristic, like bad but delicious... and i did not even focus on the others aspects of the tea, except that the energy became much too burdensome after a while. But well, it's only a very personal return of experience, and the sample is over now...

2003 Dayi Nannuo now, in school. I hoped it would get better - nope. It's not really bad, but it's not too full, sweet, nor tasty - it's like scented wood with a lot of bitterness and some astirngency...

This hasn't been my experience. Tea in this age range is demanding
of the brewer to extract the fullness, IMO.
