I've got the songpin broken up on the tray getting lots of air, near office fan. Needs a few more weeks still. Definitely more of the traditional storage on it, I wonder if the heavier-storage cakes don't ever fully "air out"?

I've gotten fond of the 'ol dusty-musty flavors for sure. I'm temped to try a few of the heavy-wet stored cakes around.

Drank some of the 2007 white bud sheng puerh from Norbu today. I just checked and determined that I first tried this tea in 2009, it was dominated by an early smokiness that I really enjoyed, which has mostly dissipated by now. It's been nearly 2 years, and the tea is already changing noticeably. It's the only puerh I've bought in sufficient quantity to really watch it evolve over time (I have several beengs), and I've finally noticed a change, after these last couple of months. So cool to be able to experience that.

Was at Purple Cane because of their yearly member sale (from 15% to 38% disc). Purple Cane is a Tea Franchise in Malaysia with more than 20 branches nationwide. Usually located in shopping malls.

They tried to promote their Meng Qing Round Tea raw puerh. They said though it is 2008, but it is specially stored to let it age faster. I gave it a try. Colour of the tea looks like age tea, but I don't like it cause it has obvious Wet stored and the Storage ('chang') smell. Tasted not so comfortable to me. Usual price RM250. Promo price RM125 /beeng. If buy 1 toong = RM700. No thank you...

A 2009 "old tree" pu'erh from Wuliang Mountain. I'm not sure if I've had any pu from this area before... anybody? Any typical characteristics? It has a nice bitterness to it. Quite young still, of course...

I was really impressed with the 2009 YS production from Wu Liang. I thought the aroma was almost tomato-like. I think it's body is a bit weak, but the floral aromas and flavors are great.

Today I drank some of essence of tea's 1980's bamboo wrapped tuocha (produced by xiaguan). I began with a 10 second rinse, and 20 second 1st steep followed by a 15 second 2nd steep and proceeded to increase the time by 5 seconds for each subsequent infusion. Earlier infusions had a pronounced and lingering sweetness with earthy overtones. The infusions progressively became woodsier and more fragrant with a crisp finish as the sweetness diminished, though bitterness never became prominent. I brewed this in a 120ml shui ping hu yixing pot with 3.5 grams of dry leaf. This is only the 5th sheng I've tried and as someone who is quite new to pu-erh in general, I was very pleased with this and I look forward to trying more in the future.

I've been drinking the YS Wuliang Lanxiang recently. It definitely has floral aromas, but it's not a gentle tea. There's a good bit of bitterness there, too.

Currently I'm drinking some 2009 8582. Not sure why. It's nothing special, but I have a fondness for this recipe.

Also, YS 2010 Gedeng. Really fruity and pungent.

Drinking 2010 YUNNAN SOURCING "WU LIANG SHAN" RAW, my firts raw pu-erh for now. Increible how many times can be infused, I always get tired before the end.

2003 You Le Mountain Round Cake sample from YSLLC.
Very clean. Drinking nicely on day three. Brew 8-9.
Beautiful leaf and nice medium/soft compression. Combination of some smoke and long mouthfeel with a subtle floral side. Left me feeling good.

A couple years back, Essence of Tea carried some tuos from the 1990s that had gone through some pretty humid storage at some point in their life. But they were damned cheap.

After a beautiful oolong today, I thought it was time to break into one of these tuos. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
