How is the 1993? If possible have you compared it to the one from EOT?

When you say too dry, are we talking Kunming dryness for 12yrs?

I tried the 93 too. I haven't read any of the extra posts yet - so if Jan has verified it as something, then good. I suspect its not from menghai, but it still has some serious kickbutt strength to it. the aged flavor in it was present, and enjoyable.

You should try that brick again, after airing out a few weeks. Even though i prefer "wet" i found this one to be significantly better than the 03 brick from houde. I thought of order a couple more but they're sold out now. Worth a second look if they get restocked.

1997 Heng Li Chang this morning, from Essence of Tea, continuing the tests of the new teapot from Yi Yong Cheol. The tea is brewing up spicy/earthy/sweet, delicious, wonderful. A happy excuse to bring out some really fine tea.

This is definitely not a tea to drink before bedtime. The first several brews hit you hard with a wet stored, musty, woody aroma and flavor and a bitterness that thankfully subsides after about 5 infusions. Deep reddish/brown color, wet in the mouth with a long huigan with a fruity tinge that was still apparent an hour after I finished drinking. Refreshing. The tea smooths out and becomes very pleasant. I felt this tea descend into my gut then up to my head, clearing out a lot of the sluggishness from the 34℃ weather here. I'm sure many puerh fans will find something to like about this tea. Will stand even more aging.

I drank infusions of this one all day, including a final series of infusions right before bedtime--no problem falling asleep. By that point it was quite relaxing.

I am a puerh noob.
I know this isn't very aged, but it is my oldest sheng yet, '97 Menghai 7542 (or perhaps 32, I've been told).
Not sure yet what good aged sheng should taste like. This one still tastes pretty green to me. Lots of tobacco. Maybe a little smoother than some of the younger pu I have sampled.
The leaf is small, very brown, and very broken.
But I am liking it.
I have a few older samples to try and more on the way.
My adventure is just beginning.

Day two with 1980s 7542 from Thechineseteashop. Dropped the entire 10g sample into a 120ml gaiwan last night, then remembered how much I paid for it. Oh well. Hopefully this will go for days. I am 10 steeps in. 60 seconds long and it is dark and smooth. Some smokey tobacco.
Last night, the early infusions gave me the sweats. Super alert.
This morning, it is very relaxing.

Vendor : EOT (David painstakingly chose this cake in Taiwan a year ago because the few O-in-O cakes were mixed with the bulk of the Green-in-Orange cakes). This cake did not spend time in UK, shipped directly from Taiwan.

Status : One year in Malaysia, I'm glad to report the tea has transformed well, love the complexity and depth. Everytime I drink a cup I would wait at least 15 to 20 mins before brewing the next because it coats the whole mouth with so much lasting flavours, no need another cup so soon.

Too bad this tea is sold out at EOT. If there is any left, the price would be much higher too, seeing how much the prices had changed for the well known cakes.

one of my favorites.

Yesterday I tried j-tea internationals 93 raw dry stored has a nice plum flavor but still very immature a good tea but not really what I look for in an aged pu-erh.
Last nite I switched to the 80s lotus shu from bana tea. Really nice qi. I would like to if this is at least similar to the official (was it 81?) GNWL. Has any adventurous soul out there tried the 80s GNWL from Generation tea that would know if its legit?

I have no idea what it is, never tasted aged pu before, but tasted like a shen, very mellow....started sweating after the first cup
The big black piece on the right is a 5 year old shu for comparison.
