I see a the problem with the obiami filter.
This will be a slow dry, in summer (forget about it) mold city!!

Yeah, never forget to clean it, rinse like crazy and finish with very hot water. Then drain with the spout pointing straight down for a while to drain.

I think hot water is critical, the kyusu will 80% dry in a few minutes.

Yeah, I think ambient temp can affect brewing, you just have to be aware of it and actually check temps to double check yourself. I use a thermometer quite a bit, no shame in it.
