NCAM Tea Event @ UCLA

by thestranger » Mar 25th, '09, 15:50

Hey TeaChatters,
I'm a longtime lurker, but first time poster (lame intro -- sorry).

Anyways, I'm also part of a club at UCLA called Nutrition, Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCAM) at UCLA. And I'm responsible for organizing one of the events this quarter. A tea event!

Most of our events are small workshops, in which mostly club members come, but we're trying to make this a dorm event to expand the audience.

Essentially, I wanted to invite one or two speakers who were tea shop owners or nutritionists knowledgeable about the health benefits of tea and have them share their knowledge with the students. My personal goal for the event is to have students learn more about tea and see it as an alternative to coffee or energy drinks. (As college students, we live on caffeeeeeinneeeee.)

And to make the event more interactive, I wanted to have a tea tasting event with an example of white tea, green tea, oolong tea, black tea and perhaps a tisane. I was even thinking it would be fun to have a tea guessing game too, and then give out prizes!

Which brings me to the point of this post. I was hoping there would be some generous souls out there would be willing to donate some tea or tea goodies as supplies or prizes for this event. Anything would be most helpful, we're a small club!

Additionally, any information on who in LA to ask to come speak or maybe ask for donations would be great. I know there was a group that did a trip in LA in January, so if I could get any advice from them that would be great!
