Heading to Nepal

by disillusioned » Mar 11th, '09, 14:20

I'm heading to Nepal mid may and I was hoping to get some tea related suggestions for places to go. I promised my father I would return with a backpack full of tea. Most of my time will be spent trekking in the Himalayas but I will be spending about a week in Khatmandu.

No personal experience, but you could try contacting this estate if you don't find anything else:

Wow, that sounds incredible! I don't have a clue what to suggest, but I would certainly want to at least get a good look at the highest place on earth.

Tea wise, really tough. Maybe someone from Adagio might chime in since they recently added FF Nepal, they may have some insight.

Thailand and Cambodia are kinda scary places as far as tea goes imho.

If Chip scares you away from one of these 2 why not try Malaysia, a few days in the Cameron Highlands visiting Tea Plantation(s) and a few days in Kuala Lumpur visiting tea shops in Chinatown.
Best wishes from Cheshire

Lucky! I was going to go to Nepal this year! Tell me how it goes.

Thailand is AMAZING. I didn't check out the tea scene while I was there. Did you check Lonely Planet?

YES, the original series was GREAT. I would get excited just hearing the theme music for the show at the very beginning. I saw Thailand and Cambodia episodes to name a few, likely saw them all. I often felt like I was right there with Ian and Justeen (butchering the spellings). I loved how they made the trips a true adventure!!!

Do not get me wrong, I would visit virtually any Asian country except North Korea, but the tea from some countries may not be so great ... or even dangerous from some accounts. The OP was regarding tea in relation to this journey.

Often export tea from these countries is safer than tea within the country itself.
