From Google:
The Statler Brothers recorded the song in 1965. It was written by one of the members of the group, Lew DeWitt and eventually became their signature song.
In later years, the song was covered by Pat Boone, Brenda Lee, Trini Lopez, Herb Alpert, the New Christy Minstrels, Nancy Sinatra, and Eric Heatherly.
The song was mentioned in "Pulp Fiction" and "Die Hard with a Vengeance."
The tempo is very upbeat and lilting - it's a polka.
Now that we've totally hijacked Tea Day...

Polka? LOL
Ok, sorry everyone, let's get back tea! We can continue the polka debate elsewhere!
This afternoon I had Lupicia Nilgiri, followed by Den's Matcha Miyabi in my new Hagi chawan. You can check out the pics in the Hagi show off thread under Teaware.
My daylight was ending so I couldn't take a picture of the matcha, but it looked so lovely in the new bowl and the bowl is the perfect size, probably my new favorite piece. I will post a matcha pic soon!

I've done that before. Worked a 15 hour shift and was sick from guzzling soda and coffee by the end of my day.omegapd wrote:Like Salsero, never on tea- but I have had it before on coffee. Get stuck working a bunch of OT and living on caffeine and nicotine is not the best feeling in the world.

Isn't there some kind of Polka or something about that by Lefty Frizzell?augie wrote:I've done that before. As for me, I think I might be a tad wired from having matcha too late in the day.

My worst caffeine overdose was last summer. I drank a HUGE soda on the 4 hour drive to the airport to go to my daughter's. Then at dinner I had another soda, then got on the plane at 9:30 p.m. I couldn't sit still for most of the flight (Portland, OR to Newark, NJ, about 5 hours), never mind sleep! We had a 3 hour layover in Newark (which was 2 a.m. our time) before getting on the plane to Raleigh, NC. Between the caffeine overload, sleep deprivation, and time change, I pretty much felt like crud. I felt terrible, also, because after my daughter picked us up, I fell asleep on the drive to her house - after not seeing her for 7 months!
I learned a couple of lessons - no more overnight flights, and definitely no caffeine before having to sit still for several hours!

Never a caffeine OD from tea.
On a 16-hour road trip several years ago I was over tired so drank a couple of Mountain Dews and a Diet Pepsi and was doing alright. But a No-Doz 2 hours from the end of the trip put me over the top! By the time I arrived at my folks house at 1 AM I had the shakes and had to sit up for a couple more hours just to be able to go to bed.
Swore to never do that again.
Today was a low-caffeine day for me: White Darjeeling this morning and evening, with White Mango at the office.
