ten ren green tea

by purerealm » Apr 22nd, '09, 19:13

Anyone get their tea from this store branch in california and a few other states? I'd like to hear some opinions on their green tea. Up to now I've focused all my research on online vendors when I realized that I could just get it locally.

Be sure with japanese green tea you can`t get good quality locally, if by some miracle you could, it would be more expencieve than ordering online, as with chinese tea it might be possible, but the same rules apply.

Ten Ren specializes in Taiwan oolong. Some of their green tea is produced in Taiwan and is very different from green tea from mainland China. They have some green tea imported from mainland China but with a more winding trade route through mainland --> Taiwan --> USA

I was in their San Francisco store once a few years back. The only samples on offer that day were flavored teas, and I don't do flavored, so I don't know what their real stuff is like.

I've really enjoyed their oolongs. Their quality is as good as any other I have had. (depending on which grade you buy and all) But I know nothing of their greens.

I've been to the one in Chicago. I haven't tried many of their other teas but after being in the store I kinda felt like everything had been sitting on the shelf for 20 years. I like the idea of buying local...but if you're trying to get quality tea you may want to buy online. Maybe the other locations are better.

Ten Ren is the Starbucks of loose leaf tea. They have about 70-80 stores in Taiwan, North America, Australia, Japan, Singapore and Malasia.

The owner of Ten Ren Group is also president of Ten Fu group which had 628 stores all over the People's Republic by March of 2007

I have heard a bunch of different stories about Ten Fu stores here that may or may not be true, and aren't worth repeating as they probably would have not much bearing on Stores in the US anyway.

The few teas I have had from them were very ordinary. I felt as though their tea ware was the same, and that prices did not reflect quality.

Ten Ren is well known for adding extra fragrance into their teas. Although not all of the tea they sell has the extra addition of fragrance, many does.
