Favourite Vendors

by Proinsias » Apr 26th, '09, 11:37

Hi all,

I was planning on picking up a few teas from India, and maybe surrounding areas, and was wondering if anyone had vendors to sing the praises of. I picked up a load of samples from Lochan Tea last year and was really rather impressed, especially considering the prices. I was planning on picking up some teas from there over the next few days, I was going to order today but can't for the life of me find the 2009 teas they have advertised and have just emailed them about this, so I have a short window to think about infidelity.

I'm in the UK and I'm quite keen on ordering from India, as I've just ordered from China and Japan today it would make me feel very authentic this week. But I'm open to US or European vendors.

I'm thinking a few Darjeeling-ish teas, not too fussed if they are green, oolong, black or whatever, but will look for decent Assam and some other bits and bobs.

Thanks.

Nice Darjeeling from the source. http://www.teaemporium.net/
“Take some more tea,” the March Hare said to Alice, very earnestly.
“I’ve had nothing yet,” Alice replied in an offended tone: “so I ca’n’t take more.”
“You mean you ca’n’t take less,” said the Hatter: “it’s very easy to take more than nothing.”

Thunderbolt Tea was good too, IIRC. It's been a while since I had any Darjeeling, though.

What process got you to this point? (why choose them)

Just curious. I do not have a clutch black tea vendor. Price and quality is a tricky game for me.

***This organic blend is earthy & spicy, with a fragrant aroma & smooth flavor to captivate the senses. Naturally sweetened in the Kentucky sunshine & infused with natural energy. Equally delicious when served piping hot or crisply chilled.***

I'm new-ish at the loose-leaf black tea game, but I've had good luck with www.specialteas.com...The Ceylons I've gotten from them have been nicely priced and true to the descriptions.

Have fun shopping,

+1 on Special Teas in CT, US. Awesome selection of the heavy hitter Darjeeling, Assam, and Ceylon estates. Actually my mouth is watering just looking, I gotta place a re-up order.

My all-time Indian faves are Meleng Assam FTGFOP1 (they're not lying, the 'perfect' Assam), and Vithanakande Ceylon FBOPF-EX.

I'm not as much of a Darj fan, but Puttabong, Margaret's Hope, Castleton, and Makaibari estates are winners...

I don't expect the shipping would be that outrageous to the UK, either. Weak dollar might work in your favor too.

But what, they don't have good Indian Tea at Harrods? ;)

I haven't tried the specialteas Vithanakande Ceylon FBOPF-EX yet, but the much less expensive Vithanakande Ceylon FBOPF1 (#321) is awesome!!!!

I'm out of it and just writing about it makes my mouth water!
