How much tea do you go through?

Hi all!

I started drinking loose leafs sometime last year. During my thesis for school I noticed that I drank A LOT of tea. I decided to make an observational experiment and see how much tea I went through.

This was after two months!




So how much tea do you go through within a day/month/year?

1680 - 2352g a year is what I'd guess...based on using 5-7 grams a day. Some days I'm quite a bit more than that but then others I just drink a single cup western style Keemun and only use about 3g.

I don't actually weigh my leaves, I'm just guestimating based on the size of samples I get.

hmm i'd say i only use about 1 to 2 teaspoons a day (with multiple steeps for each).

1.5 * 7 = 10.5 teaspoons a week
10.5 * 4 = 42 teaspoons a month
42 * 12 = 504 teaspoons a year or about 10.5 cups

btw i used to keep mine in a jar like that too but i must have put some not quite dry leaves in it and it started to mold so now i just compost it.

Hm, I don't like to think about how much tea I go through in a year. That number scares me.

Not as much as I did a year or two ago, the pace is a little more leisurely these days and I even take at least one day off a week.

Wow, 30 grams a day!? That sounds like an intense (or relaxing?) day of tea! But it seems like the average is 5 grams a day.

I've heard stories of molding tea, so I make sure to dry it for days before it goes in the jar. Eventually it'll get thrown into a larger compost heap that's being started for plants. I was going for a tea pillow, but the jar I used smells like pickles
