Sick tea!

by sporkubus » Mar 13th, '09, 09:12

So I'm pretty ill at the moment and I'm extremely grateful for the huge tin of rooibos sitting in my cupboard. I also like drinking chamomile and peppermint when I have an upset stomach. Do you guys have a favorite tea to drink when you're sick?

When I'm sick I go for comfort teas which tend to be milder tasting. Oolongs and sencha are what I reach for then. Oolongs when I'm really sick, sencha when I'm sorta sick. Hmm, I just realized that I pretty much avoid black teas when I'm sick. The flavor is too strong, I suppose.

I always do any mint or a pure oolong tea for upset belly but if I feel like im getting sick like a cold I started making a tea at work and it really helps and people would always come in my store asking for the "sick tea".
What it is a white tea for the antioxidants (i did a spicy one with almonds & peppercorn), a red/rooibos for antioxidants and flavor (orange) and perppermint hot with honey!
And I alwyas made if with love for my customers if they said thay were sick :0
But yeah I think that combo really seemed to help.

When I'm sick I stop drinking my favorite teas. I don't want my favorite tea to remind me of being sick. I'll leave that to gatoraid and jello.

When im coughing and sneezing i dont feel like fussing with brewing loose tea so i go for a quick fix with teabags from traditional medicinals(http://www.traditionalmedicinals.com/seasonal_products) or yogi teas(http://www.yogiproducts.com/products/ca ... erbal-tea/). Even though they are not real "tea" they have a great line for cold care.

Right on...

A recent study shows that ginger helps with nausea associated with chemotherapy.

Interesting question...
When my DH is a little sick in the stomach (not very often) he purposely drinks black tea because it will make him vomit. It only has this effect if he is already sick. Personally, if my stomach is "off", I avoid black tea.

We don't get colds very often in our house (2 adults, 2 teens, 5 years, 5 colds total), but this past fall when I got a cold, I drank lots of Kabusecha. It was delightfully warm, easy on the stomach and I think the green-ness is a real plus to a body fighting off cold germs. It is also relatively inexpensive so you aren't "wasting the good stuff" if your taste buds are a little off.

Stay well,
Dreamer
