Yixing Teapots From Yunnan Sourcing. Are They Any Good?

by ButchCivic » May 22nd, '09, 17:03

Hi everybody, I just got into loose teas and need some help with Yixings. I really like Yunnan Sourcing LLCs selection of teapots. But, the prices really differ from one to the other. I want to get into Pu-erhs and Oolongs. What would be the best pot to start with? I prefer something larger as I like to get one good gulp in when I drink tea. :)

I don't have to buy from Yunnan Sourcing so any suggestions would be great.

Thanks A Lot. :D

I can't even get that site to fully open in Firefox. The prices are a little steep too.

Thanks for the info though. :)

I have several teapots from Yunnan Sourcing and have never been disappointed in any that I have.

For even better prices, you can look at Chinese Teapot Gallery. I also have a couple pots from them (from among their very low end ones) that have served me well and were excellent values. They are also domestic and so shipping is inexpensive and quick.

T4Texas had quite a bit of experience in their physical store when it was still open and felt good about most of the pots that are priced above something like $15.

If you want expensive pots that may have collector or objets d'art value, you could look at the Shouzhen Workshop among many others.

You may need to scroll to the right. When I load the page in Firefox the banner/header is in the right place, but all of the content is about a page over to the right.

Yes, the chineseteapotgallery on eBay is more than okay, as long as you are looking at pots that cost at least $12. Prices are quite fair at all price levels. I think they will have a new shipment in from China in about 6 - 8 weeks. There's not a lot there I can recommend right now for brewing (as opposed to decorative pieces) even though they have over 800 pots listed.

But real teapots cost so. I dont think you can find pots of such cuality online cheaper than at Cheng,s. I think it is better to by one good teapot a year than a dozen of junk pots a year.

About quality. Actually you can never insure quality of the pot from the look. But i know some people who know about teapots. I shown the website to them... First i should say that most of them are vendors so they wont say "Yes! THose are greate! Go buy some!". But none of them disagreed that teapots are of good quality.

If you buy those under 10$ yixing pots, one day when you get a real yixing, a good one that does the magic, smoothens the tea, extracts more flavour, than you will realize how much you have spent on useless teapots, I think it is better to buy the best quality and own a few teapots, than owning lots of lesser quality ones.

Thanks for the quick response Chen. I'm using Firefox 3.5b4. Your page comes up fine now. I don't know if the problem was on your end, or my browser just needed to be reopened. Before the site just had the items on the sides, but not the center of the page. Looks like it's all fixed now. :)

I do have a few questions. Are all of teapots ball filter type pots or are some of them flat on the inside intake? Which one do you prefer and why? Do your teapots come with the wooden stands? Your teapots and stands look great by the way. :)

Thanks Again. :D
