Well then...
I tried the last two in my black sampler pack and I must say... I though both of these were pretty good.
Yunnan Jig had a nice peppery / slightly smokey flavor to it. Mildly astringent, but not bad.
Golden Monkey was... wow. I was taken quite off guard by the sweetness. I think that it would make a great after dinner tea. I will definitely be ordering more of this one. Great cuppa.
Out of the sampler I can see ordering the Ceylon, Golden Monkey and Yunnan Jig again, however I would like to try the other yunnans first as many people seem to be fans of the gold and noir varieties.
Anywho... Just my 2 cents... The greens will be next!
Cheers,
Mike

Thanks for the reviews dresden, It sounds like I might have to try the yunnan jig. I want to try a peppery tea just to see how it is.
I tried the golden yunnan from rishi but after several tries I just can't find anything peppery about it
Regardless its a very good tea but tastes more malty to me than anything.
Is there any specific ways of brewing to bring out the peppery taste more or is it, just brew it normally and it will taste peppery?

I'm going to try the Yunan teas next as well. I had gotten a sample (it's gone now
) of Golden Monkey from Adagio, and loved it, so I was forced - at least that's what I told my wife - to get a larger tin of it. I brewed Golden Monkey in the Gongfu style I had just learned about, using a gaiwan, and that was truly excellent. I was able to get several steeps, the different flavors were great, and it was a good bit of fun, plus, it forced me to become adept at quickly pouring (very hot) tea into two teacups from one gaiwan, which I didn't mind showing off lol. I practiced with water first, and would recommend that to others wanting to try Gongfu, before wasting tea
