I believe this is a yixing pot, I have never had one of these before and was wondering how to use it. I know once you choose a type of tea you are stuck with that type. Any recommendations for the kind of tea that will benefit best over use in the pot? Or will jasmine pearls age nicely with a yixing? If so that is good too because I am a big fan of jasmine.[/img]

i've never tried to season yixing with a flavored tea, and in general it's rare. some say green teas just deposit bitter tannins in the pot, yet people season pots with high tannin black teas, so your mileage may vary.
i say if that's the tea you love most, go for it and let us know how it goes.

That is a beautiful looking yixing. I also like the design of the tin. Jasmine is a pretty strong scent so I would be surprised if the yixing didn't absorb this. If jasmine is your thing go for it. Keep us updated!

hi
nice yixing pot you have there. i've seen some of those somewhere. i wouldn't recommend using that for greens because that pot is thick walled and retains heat. unless it is thin walled which i doubt so. choose some oolongs, red or black tea. make greens in gaiwans.

I'm not sure about using jasmine tea in yixing, but I thought most jasmine tea tends to be oolong. There are jasmine greens out there, but most tend to be oolong (correct me if I'm wrong). I've also heard some people say that a few greens are ok for yixing like bilouchun, but otherwise oolongs, blacks, and puers are better.
If your jasmine is a oolong jasmine, I bet it would turn out fine in the pot. Only one way to find out. Definitely make a control with a glass/porcelain cup/pot to compare.

I think jasmine tea can have different types of base, including something very similar to green tea, black tea, etc. See discussion at:

Regardless, I think it would probably be better not to use a scented tea with a Yixing pot.

There is always resetting the pot with a good boil (or one of the various other cleaning methods), so I wouldn't say "stuck".
We were fated to pretend.
