For those nearby and interested, the currently running Lords of the Samurai exhibit at the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco has some seriously impressive items of interest to fellow tea nuts here. Along with a number of old tea scoops, chaire and such, they feature a kuro-raku chawan "Otogoze" made by Raku Chojiro - the original creator of the raku-yaki style

The picture doesn't really do it justice - I spent more time than I should admit ogling over its imperfect perfection. There are some other incredible items in the exhibit that I'd never expect to see outside Japan, including some sumi-e and wooden swords by
Miyamoto Musashi
