Greetings TeaChatters, great news, special and exclusive HAGI offer #3 is close at hand. I expect to announce the details along with pictures this coming week. Stay tuned. This offer can only be accessed here.
These pieces are being crafted specifically for TeaChatters by DEISHI SHIBUYA, how cool is that. In addition a special commemorative stamping will indicate this special offering. Cooler yet.
And if that is not cool enough, I have done a good bit of research and have found "similar" items from one and only one other vendor costing around 20% more. Coolest.
I am excited to share this Hagi experience with TCers, and am anxious to announce all the details.

To each his own, but I would consider dedicating a pot/cup to more robust teas, much like a yixing, since Hagi clays and glazes are generally quite porous.Rainy-Day wrote:Interesting! Are Hagis generally more suitable for japanese teas or a good all-around cup for all teas?
I use mine for greens, but you can brew and enjoy most any tea in Hagi. I would not do flavored or scented teas in them however.

As with most teaware, the prices can vary dramatically depending on many factors including who made the items, was it mass produced or fully hand made, etc. Hagi items can cost a few dollars to thousands.Sam. wrote:How much do these pieces usually cost? I don't have any hagi yet but I've started looking into it.
My first priority in selecting a special offering to TeaChatters is a degree of uniqueness. TeaChatters will have something special, although more of the items may come to market later on ... although often the batch is very unique, who knows?
Expect these special offerings to be of craftsman origin and fully hand made. I try to find pretty unique items, reflected in things like the glazes. I try to negotiate a better than market price based on quantity.
Market price is hard to define since in some cases ebay auction prices can be quite variable. Since the items chosen are pretty unusual, a test auction on an item is sometimes performed. This usually confirms that the special offering prices offered to TeaChatters are quite reasonable and well below market value.
