Wouldn't those just be the small hairs found on any tea? I've often looked at my tea when I brew in my small glass tea pot and I see these everywhere, regardless of tea type, even blacks. With Silver Needles there's what looks like a million of them, as befits the name.

The hairs are called trichomes. Their abundance is generally viewed as a mark of a superior tea. Mary R wrote a nice TeaMuse article about them back in October of 2007, and there's even a thread devoted to the article HERE.

I actually swapped with Tead Off for these DC, so hopefully I can work something out of these teas. I've heard that DC is a b*tch to brew, and it's a real big challenge, but for some reason I really like that. I have this image in my mind of DC as this finicky old dragon, and I'm trying to tame it...

The full name of silver needle is actually 白毫银针 (baihao yinzhen) or white fur silver needle.
