Bringing tea on a plane to another country?

by nemesis256 » Jul 24th, '09, 21:07

I'm taking a trip at the end of August to Canada (from the US) and I was hoping to bring some tea for my trip. I want to bring a few almost empty Adagio samples. Is there a chance I have problems with airport security or customs? Could they think I was bringing drugs?

I've brought tea in my suitcase (checked, not on my person or in my carry-ons) between Canada and the US. I went to university for two years in Montreal while my family was living in Texas and I traveled back and forth and I never found my bag confiscated or torn through after putting sealed containers of tea in with my clothes.

Authorities know the difference, not to worry.

My husband has brought me back samples of teas from various regions he's visited, and he has had his bag searched. I would say to just leave the tea in the original labeled tins.

The tea would be in the original tins but the problem with Adagio's tins is that they're not sealed. Even when you receive them there's no plastic or anything around it to prevent it from being opened. Is this still ok?

Sure, just secure the lid with a larger rubberband, and maybe put it in a gallon size ziplock back.

Yeah, if you just put them in your "checked" bags instead of carryon, then you should be completely fine.

Otherwise I've heard that dead sharks are a good way to get things over the border :D

I travel between European counties all the time with many many packets of tea, in checked and non-checked baggage and I haven't had a single problem yet :)
