First Matcha Experience

Another mistake I made when making Matcha...
I have a habit of smelling the dry leaf of teas I've about to brew, and unfortunately I proceeded to waft the aroma of my Matcha. Needless to say, it ended badly, and I looked like a coked-up drug addict.

BTW, I drink 2 x 6oz servings of matcha each morning and I love it's unique buzz. Feels so good, but also smooth and just somehow alive.

Also, re: whisking - I was taught to whisk vigorously, and I usually make plenty of contact with the bottom of the chawan with no problems whatsoever. And my matcha's always frothy and smooth and goooood.

Hey - anyone know where to obtain wooden chasaku? I've seen one that blows me away on whitecranetea.com, and I wantzzzz! Wonder if wooden ones go by a different name?

So, i got my order

(i received 100g of sencha yutaka midori and 30g of matcha kiri ni mori)

i was anxious to try to matcha as it was gonna be my first experience.
i had 2 bowls so far (i dont own a chawan but i did it in a cup that looks like it)

1) used 1/3 of a teaspoon and 125ml water at 82c/180f like they said to do on the paper they sent me with it.

taste good, a bit chocolaty, with some kind of rosted taste in it, gentle, DARK green, no foam or bubbles. (i wisked in W like they said to do).


2) used 1/2 of a teaspoon and 125ml water at 82c/190f like they said to do on the paper they sent me with it.

creamy, more vegetable taste, DARK green, i wisked harder and got myself some bubbles.


I think 1/3 of a teaspoon was better althought i will have to try to whisk it harder so i get the bubbles and all.Overall a really good experience. Im feeling really pumped. Never been that affected by caffeine i think, im going to workout and lift some weight me think! haha.

Now, cant wait to try that sencha!!!

P.S : got any tips? i will take them gladly.

Koicha is just a thicker version of Matcha, because more powder is used (and maybe less water?) as opposed to usucha, which is thin Matcha. I think there is a recent thread about Koicha vs. Usucha

ok, then may be im using too much powder. may be i didnt whisk enough. tomorow ill do another bowl

My Kiri no mori is on its way, plus some of Yuuki-Cha's next-to-cheapest matcha, for comparison. Can't wait

This afternoon I'll go out and get some food-grade matcha as well, for ice cream and stuff.
