A few questions

by mmmmsamy » Aug 8th, '09, 11:15

Hello! I'm new to these boards and just had a couple of questions.

What is a good kettle that you can set specific temperatures on?

What is the best one/two person teapot (handle doesn't get hot, doesn't drip, etc. & doesn't break the bank)?

Where do you store your teas? I have a bunch of loose leaf teas in their seperate tins, but I have a lot of assorted bagged teas as well; is there a good place to buy a bunch of empty tea tins? I also saw those tea boxes, but I think I'd prefer something to open/close seperate compartments when I'd like.

Thank you!

welcome sammy....mmmmmmmmmmm

cool thing this tea chat is

well you have good questions so i will give the view of a tea drinking potter.

OK lets start with storage. it sounds like you already have a good size collection going. and i bet you will come to realize that this tea thing has a sort of life of its own. it takes up more and more space in your life and keeping it organized and under control is a on going task. "i hope you drink tea while doing it" so my suggestion is for you to get some nice hand made jars to store your real good tea and your daily use tea in. and the ones which you do not drink that often or you feel can Handel longer storage get a more compact box type container that you can organize.

for the kettle i think there are 100's if not 1000's of suggestions. so i will leave that to the kettle guys to suggest. "i do use a zerochi with 3 temp settings......but they ain't cheep" others can tell you about this too.

now for the tea pot again i think a good hand made pot is the most pleasing to use on a daily basis. there are some inexpensive ones out there just as there are some inexpensive /cheep production types too.
if you are interested in the production types try and go by one of your local tea shops and get them to let you use one or all of there offerings and test it your self.

now for the tea bags ahhhh. i don't know i went threw this sort of thing a long time ago were one day i realize the bag stuff......well....was quit inferior to the loose stuff i had and i came up with a novel storage idea were i wound up keeping all of them in the rubbish.

its your call but i bet you could organize some in that same box type thing and save some space.

sooooo i guess get out there and test what you can and look around for a local potter who can make tea ware you like that is functional.

good luck and watch out the leaf will take over.

also there are a few good potters here on tea chat who you might check out.

i hope i might have helped point you in the right direction and again good luck
